The always-amazing Fashion Toast has found new meat: Jak and Jill! The Sartorialist-like site has editors, buyers and models in their Fashion Week garb.At Paris Fashion Week S/S 08 I think, maybe F/W 08... Carine looks great, of course (Maison Martin Margiela suit?), but look at her assistant- adorable outfit, great shoes... it must be awesome to work for Carine, but can you imagine the pressure?
Following in her mother's footsteps, Carine's daughter Julia Restoin Roitfeld carries on the family tradition of looking top-notch at Proenza Schouler's NY SS08 show in Roberto Cavalli and Balenciaga shoes. (I'm probably biased do to my unhealthy love of fringe....)

So prom is in May... I haven't decided if I'm going yet, because my #1 reason would be to get a dress... so why not use this as an excuse to look?

This Donna Karan dress literally takes my breath away every time I see it. Epitome of elegance, and I actually love the color.

Oh, Calvin Klein! Your love of neon almost matches mein! Haha I would lovveeee to show up in this baby. (With the gloves, of course.)

I see a lot more of these posts in the near future... especially as the Fall 08 shows continue in London! (Look at Yigal Azrouel and the Paul Smith Women's collection!)

Alloy

Alloy is a slightly more expensive version of Wet Seal, basically, but they occasionally have cute things on sale. Therefore, I was on their site. As usual, I got distracted by bathing suits. Until I came across this:
In Seventeen magazine a couple of years ago, they had a survey about how girls felt about their bodies. I don't remember the exact number, but they had a question about "do you think being able to see bones/ribs is beautiful?" aka being so skinny (like this girl) that you can see your ribs and a surprising percentage of girls said YES, they do think that is beautiful, and something they should strive for. That's sickening. So, ALLOY, maybe you should read that and stop putting superskinny models where thousands of teenage (and younger) girls will see it, and think that's what they need to be. Go get Sarah Ruba instead!

Marimekko has made me want to move/visit Finland (Maybe visiting would be more practical...). There's a store in Cambridge (Called Finnish Line haha love) that sells their stuff & I got a giant piece of awesome fabric for curtains:

It's called "Kaiku" and it's awesome, but I don't know how I'm going to cut it to fit my window...

The bear one is called "Unessa" by Jenni Tuominen and the pears are from the 60's and then were re-released in 06 & are by Maija Isola. I totally want pear curtains!!!!

So in my past experiences with American Eagle, they have been the suburbianite-outfitting blah chain of nothing-funness.

I have bought, in my life, 2 camis, 2 pairs of jeans (one of which is now worn super thin and has giant holes and one of which I never, ever wear and should really throw away but I feel guilty and sad because I spent $40 and wore them maybe twice?), and a polo, in a fit of 13-year-oldness. Oh, and I have a long sleeved striped T that was a present. So, not my fave store.

Then I saw this bag (on men's clearance for $40)

and I thought: wait, hey, that's awesome! I wouldn't be caught dead with it if I were a guy, and maybe I'll rip off that obnoxious brown tag that clearly says "AE Outfitters" in the middle, but this is awesome!!

Clearly their men's stuff is way better than their women's.

And maybe I'll go order that and pretend to be a British hunter in a hunting lodge in the English countryside? Just maybe...

Pre Fall?

I was over at Cuffington when I saw a gorgeous Alice Ritter coat that I want really really badly because 1. it looks warm, 2. it looks pretty, and 3. if I was ever wearing it and I went to someone's house and we got snowed in we could use it for a blanket and/or a bed and/or a pillow.

So that got me thinkin about Alice Ritter. So I checkered out her page and found these little F/W 07 beauties, which I can't copy or save or anything so go here and look at #15 (the coat mentioned above), #29 (best back of a jacket EVER), and #34 (love the jacket, the pants, and the model...)

and guess what!! OK, so I read Delia's catalogs obsessively and about a year ago I saw a cute redhead and she became my New Favorite Delia's Model.

She had such ease, and was the best model in the catalogue. and GUESS WHAT. over at Confessions of a Casting Director (search COACD, too lazy to put a link, sorry!) he put up some new faces who would be seen walking in Fashion Week, and just up-and-coming girls (and some guys). and she was there, in all her redhead glory. I love her! Her name is Sarah and I love her!!! haha sorry if you're reading this and think I'm a creep, Sarah. I just love you as a model. And probably, if I met you, as a friend. But that's all. I adore redheads anyway. I wish I could be one but my friends looked at me in horror when I suggested it.

She's signed with NEXT. I have a few other New Fave Models but I'll post them later.

look at that flawless make up and flippy, flirty, casual hair. Love the lip color.

she pulls off this outfit quite nicely, though hard to tell here. I'm sorry, I'm a sucker for fringe and I love this jacket. The Bermudas-and-tall-yet-scrunchy boot look is one I'm still trying to perfect.

So, bravo, Sloane, for being a fashion icon after just one outfit (and one swimsuit). And congrats on going out with the coolest guy in school.

Fall!

Fall is finally here in New England (though Spring/Summer 08 Fashion Week is starting NEXT WEEK in NY!!) But while browsing the airy tops, dresses and shorts online, I'll be thinking of fall fashion -- sweaters, knit dresses, tights, boots, jackets, gloves--and though a lot of people can't take the snow, ice, bone-numbing wind that fall/winter brings, I love it!!

(reasons to love fall: 1. all garments listed above, 2. fireplaces, 3. apple picking...)

To start the season off right, I'll need to go shopping, bien sur!
My Fall List:

1. Black skinny jeans from H&M (I know, I know, skinny is out, wide is in, but I can't give up my obsession!! I'm balancing it out by making wide-leg trousers in this uber-great, nubbly, tweedy fabric I found in Chinatown a few weeks ago)

2. A giant, cable-knit sweater a la Stella McCartney... I'm learning how to knit, but I don't think I'll get that good that fast. Maybe I'll knit... a potholder in time for fall?

3. Warm, ribbed gray tights

4. More plaid, hopefully:

I love this slip dress from Free People (though it'll be less slutty on me, promise, and I will be wearing something besides it)

Mm, with tights and boots and some type of shirt underneath...
Hey, I passed up their plaid skinny pants, so I feel this is a good thing...

5. A white turtleneck

(I plan on painting varying horizontal stripes onto it, and possibly inserting some elbow pads!)

6. Fun shoes

I love these (from Urban Outfitters)--they'd go with tights, leggings, skinny jeans...

7. A guy sweater vest

No need to steal my brother's sweaters now (though that won't stop me)

I must say, I don't think a Balenciaga-esque blazer is in the cards for me: It's too overdone already, by Teen Vogue, Elle, Vogue, ummm and every other magazine ever. I had a cool gray blazer with this awesome British-ish crest on the pocket that I wore last year ($7 from a thrift store!) Maybe I'll use it, maybe not.

8. And finally (wishful thinking here) this dress from APC (a mere $500)

Probably add more later, but that's good for now!

PS - SO excited, the Staminator (aka Jessica Stam) has like 3246 ad campaigns this season!! Love her so much!!

Browsing style.com's growing collection of Resort 08 shows, I came across Kinga Rajzak in Balenciaga's show. It was okay until I saw this picture of her:

at which point I became extremely worried for her health. Ghesquière's lantern sleeves just exaggerate the toothpicks that are her arms. I thought we'd gotten over (a little bit) the anorexic look? I thought the designers were falling over each other in the race to declare that I, I, I would NEVER hire a girl who I thought was in DANGER! Apparently Ghesquiere doesn't apply to this school of thought...

I'm sorry, but I really don't believe this is "natural" like the models who are angry people accuse them of eating disorders because I promise, I came by my 5 foot-11 inch, 99-pound body naturally!

Coco Rocha is so great, she's only 19, and Canadian, and I'm sure I've mentioned her before (probably a lot of times...) and she has a website, coco-rocha.com, where she actually has a blog! How great is that?? All the time the model's "lifestyle" is summed up in Vogue or something as "Oh, we have such fun at the shows, but it's so crazy backstage, and we are in makeup for hours. Oh, la, I love modeling, I go to every country ever and walk for everyone, I'm gorgeous, not anorexic, yay fashion" but Coco's blog is about her hilarious fears of mice in her apartment and her trying to find time to see her old friends, etc. And there's a board where she answers readers' questions! OK, so we can't be 100% sure it's really her writing, but what lunatic would go through so much trouble to make up all this stuff? And if it isn't her... that's amusing too haha.
The only thing I have against her was that she was discovered. Damn, I hate those models! It's like that scene in Superstar Mary Catherine Gallagher is having a "Supermodel Moment" and she puts on an accent and goes "I vas just valking down the street, and a man comes to me and say 'Vould you like to be a supermodel?' and I say 'OK' and here I am in New York the next day in Vogue!" lol (If you don't understand, go rent this movie right now!!)

Resort 08

Somehow I missed ALL of the Resort 08 collections from style.com! So today I updated myself. SO GREAT!! Although everyone raved about Karl Lagerfeld's collection for Chanel (it was held at a California airplane hangar and the models arrived via jet), I didn't love it. I did love Chloe's, though:

The shoes are so fun, especially with minidresses--And those pants!! And of course, Marc pleased everyone, with his super 70s-inspired lovefest:

Natalia Vodianova is on the cover of July 2007 Vogue! Can you believe she's only like 25? She's awesome!! And finally, finally, finally, models!! on covers! Perhaps after Vogue's "Next Top Model" and Natalia covers, ELLE will follow suit... hopefully (and hopefully with Hillary Rhoda, Iekeline Stange, or Coco Rocha!) For some reason I hope NOT for Irina... She seems so "It" that's it's annoying, like seriously Marc Jacobs, Kate Moss, and Karl Lagerfeld, can you shut up about her? And what ever happened to Lara Stone?I saw her on the runway I think it was Spring/Summer 07 but haven't seen or heard about her recently...Apparently she was on this year's April Vogue Paris! She should have been on Vogue's modelmania cover; she's way cooler than that LA girl, Chanel Iman (I'm just jealous of her...haha)

Kate Moss for Topshop!!!

So, by now everyone has heard about Kate Moss for Topshop. Seriously, it was in Vogue and W and Barney's was really excited because they got first US dibs on it. Now, I love Topshop, and Kate Moss is okay, but even if I wanted to spend $120 on one of her pieces (which, by the way, I totally do), I couldn't 'cause all the cute stuff is sold out everywhere(darn!!) . But I checked out the Lookbook and found some stuff I'd trample some rabid shoppers for when they came in. (PS - Kate & her bff/model-of-last-moment Irina did the Lookbook. I've heard Kate launched Irina's career by basically mentioning her to someone. It pays to be friends with crazy British cokeheads!) Topshop claims there'll be new pieces "every week." I don't know that I believe that but I'll be checking the Topshop site everyday just in case haha

Also - I try not to convert the pounds to dollars. Just a tip, if you don't want to be sad :) But if you do click here to convert.

You can't really tell from the pic, but these skinnys are diagonally striped. and I think there was a matching jacket (if not it was really close). I'm usually against colored skinny jeans, but I'll make an exception for these babies. (£50)

So I went shopping today & yesterday... I passed up this fab yellow H&M dress but I think I might go back and get it. I also passed on a gorgeous Anna Sui dress at Mint Julep in Harvard Sq. (awesome boutique, go there!!) but that was because it was $300. It's not like anywhere else though, I checked the Sak's, Nordstrom, Barneys, Lord&Taylor, etc. sites to show it to someone and it wasn't anywhere.

Anyway, Urban Outfitters sale was good to me:

Free People dress, it was only $50 from $138, kind of hippie-ish but I love it & the lace up back.

I'm wearing this right now LOVE!! only $10!!

Kimchi&Blu is one of my absolute fave brands.

Also at Mint Julep I saw this French Connection dress:

I like the color; purple is a new fave. It's kind of boring in the pic but really cute in real life. I love the sleeves! I showed my friend in the FC store today and the guy said they're really popular, but in white not purple.

I was browsing the Free People site (they need to send me another catalog soon! I haven't seen their summer stuff!) and found some gorgeous (though wintery) looks (b/c thats whats on sale now. DANG!)

This dress is super cute and spring-ish, and the boots make it a little more rugged but it's not the standard "dress-and-boots" fare. LOVE! Too bad the boots are about $500...

These leggings seem so equestrian (sp?). Not that I've ever ridden a horse, but if I did, this is what I'd wear.

First of all, the background on this picture makes me happy. Secondly, the tights are great (I can't tell if those are bloomer-type things over the tights?) and the boots look cozy and the dress is simple but a great color.

I love the minimalist background, and her dress, and her ridiculously nice legs.

S/S ads

You know you've been reading too many fashion magazines when, without looking at the brand name, you can tell what designer an ad is for and who the model is in it.

I love the S/S Chloe ads. The completely 60s clothing and interesting makeup makes me so happy. Chanel's ads are cool too, with Freja Beha's immensely long legs making me really jealous... I loved their black/white ads with Daria from fall,too... and Gucci's Russian peasant ads (which of course I love, due to my Russian obsession haha). Balenciaga's, with Coco Rocha, aren't that interesting, but I do love Coco. She's an Irish stepdancer like me and was actually discovered at an Irish dance festival; how great is that??

I also love Sasha Pivovrova's ads for Prada, mainly because of their brightly-colored turbans that she's wearing. I totally want one and would find any excuse to wear, even though people would either ask me to tell their fortunes or give me some spare change...

Metallic Shoes

You can always tell when I have project due soon, because the number of posts per day increases dramatically... Elie Tahari's aforementioned collection has inspired me to look for metallic shoes. They would be such an attention-grabbing accessory, even with the most basic of outfits. it would really brighten up winter...Doubtful whether I could actually pull them off, but here goes.

Grandma's Cozy Sweater

Elie tahari - Fall '07

Mardi Gras was really fun & the dress turned out great -- it was a dark blue floor-length skirt with a fitted floral-y halter top. When I get some pictures I'll put them up.

I've been catching up with emails... a ton from style.com and I love Elie Tahari's F/W 07 collection. It's really mod, easy to wear, cute stuff such as....

i love the metallics he used, especially the jacket in the 1st photo, and the trenchcoat is supercute and looks like it would be a great raincoat, which I've been looking for...

Ugh i just spent like 20 minutes getting salt stains out of a peacoat and jeans. When will it be spring??

Walking around Boston I've noticed that a lot of people are wearing long, puffy (usually black) winter coats... wait, a trend that's actually practical for winter??? It's super exciting! Last year's peacoats are still around, but in a surprisingly small number. Maybe people finally realized that puffy coats are way warmer...

Like this North Face coat... it'll run you about $300, but it looks really really warm!

My computer's messing up so I can't show anymore pictures... but you get the idea...

btw, I think it's really mean of stores to be showing swimsuits while I'm stuck freezing (without snow, unlike upstate NY with like 9 ft of snow) and posting about coats while listening to "Baby It's Cold Outside." Why do I live on the East Coast, again?

Mardi Gras Dress

I'm going to New Orleans, Louisiana for MARDI GRAS in a week and a half and I'm going to a Mardi Gras ball. I need a full-length gown, which I'm having my cousin, Maria Spyridopoulos, make for me (she is sooo talented and owns an amazing boutique, if I do say so myself). I'm going to her tomorrow to pick out fabric and design the dress. I'm thinking empire-waist, since that looks really good with tiny straps and it's going to be pretty warm down there. This dress, from gojane.com, is OK, a little prom-ish, but I do like the loose neckline and the way the fabric in the back is draped . Plus, since it is Mardi Gras, I want the dress to sparkle a little and this fabric would look cute if it was sparkly.

Really shimmery, and the color looks nice in the photo, not too terrible-bridesmaid- peachy-pink.

Then I decided to look at David's Bridal for some basic styling ideas and found a couple of dresses. I'm trying to stay away from strapless, so this is what I ended up coming up with.

What is it with me and the red today? The first one has a halter neckline, which I hadn't really considered before. Somehow a halter seems a little juvenile to me (did I really just use "juvenile" in a sentence???). The second one has that empire waist that I want...

I'll keep you updated on what I finally choose.

To Russia With Love

I've decided to become... a Russian peasant. This replaces my previous wish to become mid-1700s French nobility. (Best. hair. ever. Plus amazingly huge dresses. My fondest wish is that someday giant hoop skirted dresses with elaborate decoration will come back into style so that I can wear something like this around. OK, maybe corsets wouldn't be that fun, but they'd be worth it for a little while.)

This isn't exactly what I meant but for some unknown reason people don't put pictures of 1700s French nobility dresses online. (This all started because of history class and "Queen of Fashion: What Marie Antoinette Wore to the Revolution", which describes every style from that time period in great detail.

But I'm digressing (surprise surprise). It was Gucci's spring/summer '07 collection made me fall hard for Russia. OK, so maybe Russian peasants didn't actually look as good as this, but a girl can dream.

I was browsing Urban Outfitter's sale basement (and got 3 adorable shirts for $20!!!) and I also found these:

skinny plaid pants! they're on sale for $20! I just didn't have enough money at the time but i WANT THEM! is that terrible? am i going to be condemned for loving plaid skinny pants?

Although I do think (strongly) that skinny JEANS should only come in black, blue and perhaps gray. NOT THIS::

Ah, back from vacation and parties and food (mostly the last one). The booties were a success. I love them. But anyway, I noticed that I adore anthropologie.com because they have the cutest shoes even though I personally can't afford them, I can think of cute outfits to wear them with and imagine myself walking around downtown in it. I just bought these aptly named holiday booties at Alloy! They were only $40 and it took me a while to decide white or black? I decided on white and now the challenge is to keep them that way. Wish me luck!

so it's been forever since my last post but i've been looking at lots of different blogs and hopefully soon I'll have a list of links to them! also in my last post i mentioned a basics store in NYC with lots of cheap cashmere(!) It's like... the H&M of cashmere. Delicious. Anyway, it's called Uniqlo at 546 Broadway, New York, NY 10012. That's their flagship store, anyway. Sorry there's been no post for so long!

So the annual Victoria's Secret fashion show is December 5 at 10 PM! I think it's on CBS or something like that... I'm excited because I know the people who made this year's ridiculous diamond bra that's featured so I can't wait to see it walk down the runway (Well, I guess IT won't walk, but you know...)

Last Thursday's New York Times Style section featured an article on a store that sells cheap cashmere basics (!) and now, of course, I can't remember the name of it. I'll check and get back to you guys. But it looked exciting! I want to go to NYC for Christmas shopping but I guess I'll have to make do with the ever-growing (and ever-more-expensive) Newbery Street...
And I can't wait to go back to my new favorite thrift store: Urban Renewals! I got a brown peacoat that fit great for a mere $14!! It's amazing, if you live in Boston definately go check it out! (Urban Renewals, 122 Brighton Ave, Allston, MA)
PS - This isn't related to style or fashion or anything, but I saw For Your Consideration last night: hilarious. (Especially because the person sitting behind me would laugh REALLY LOUDLY for like 5 minutes at everything and then repeat the line and laugh some more haha)

Today, Black Friday, is the biggest shopping day of the year!!! (Which is a good thing, right? so why is it so negatively named? Wasn't Black Thursday the day the Great Depression began?)However, being sane, I refused to a) get up at 2:50 AM this morning to make it to the front of a line or b) go out at all. Thanks, but I don't need some crazy 50 year old lady screaming at me from behind because I'm not getting in the door fast enough or something. I'll wait til next weekend. So, instead of going out, I stayed in and browsed nordstrom.com (the sale rack, since I do have Christmas shopping to do) and found some fun stuff:

OK so to start, there's some exciting news around boston...

1. the museum of fine arts has a new exhibit! it's paris fashion collections from spring '06 excitement!!! I, unfortunately, being a lowly student of whom no one has heard, was not invited to the invitation-only, all-couture, if-you-weren't-invited-you're-just-not-as-cool-as-you-think opening night gala. Whatever. I'll go see it like 3 times. so ha.
2. viktor & rolf's long-awaited collaboration with H&M has arrived! on newbery street! let's head on down and spend $$!
3. a free people store has opened at the pru! despite the fact that their sweaters run about $80-200 and their necklaces routinely cost over $400, I'mma go check it out. check myself out in their dressing room mirrors. and then run home crying cuz i can't afford it. You're jealous.

I'm cool like that.) , will be about lastest updates in the fashion world and basically just fantabulous clothing found while I spend hours surfing the net (aka procrastinating...) To tell you a bit about me... I'm a student and I live in Boston, MA chyeaaaa go Sox!!! Soooo I enjoy staring people with cute outfits down or at least being creepy and trying to figure out where I can get a skirt like theirs for under $50 lol...
